Integrative Nutrition

Since many of you have contacted me with questions about my experience at the nutrition school I attended to become a certified health coach, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition*, I decided to create an FAQ page. I am always happy to answer any questions about the program as well as my overall experience with the distance-learning program at IIN.

If you have been thinking about studying at IIN, and have not read the book "Integrative Nutrition: Feed Your Hunger for Health and Happiness" by Integrative Nutrition director/founder Joshua Rosenthal, you can download it here.

*Note: By downloading, you will also be opting in to receive email updates from IIN about the program, class start dates, nutrition tips + news.

About
Integrative Nutrition is the world's largest nutrition school, and is the only school that teaches over 100 different dietary theories, food energetics, and the concept of 'bio-individuality,' which is that there is not one diet that works for everyone

FAQs:

What inspired you to enroll at the school?
I am passionate about nutrition and had been wanting to full fill my dream of starting an independent health coaching practice. My 4-year degree is in recreation management... however, I have realized that my main  passion + purpose in life is inspiring individuals to live healthy lifestyles. I had been researching different nutrition schools before I came across and enrolled at IIN!

What is a Health Coach?
A Health Coach is a wellness authority and supportive mentor who motivates individuals to cultivate positive health choices. Health Coaches educate and support clients to achieve their health goals through lifestyle and behavior adjustments. Proper health coach training programs and health coach certification ensure that Health Coaches know how to work with diverse groups of people and equips them with the tools necessary to best fit the needs of their clients.
“The primary objectives of health coaching are to educate the patient regarding self health management and to encourage patients in taking a more proactive role in staying healthy.”-Medical Economics, Nov 2010
As more and more awareness is given to preventative care, health coaching is seen as a vital aspect of creating healthy lifestyle changes.  Health Coaches are becoming recognized as essential and integral parts of people’s health and wellbeing.  Not only is there a shift to live healthier lives, people are finding that helping others become healthier makes their lives better too.

Can you describe the curriculum?
The curriculum is focused on academic learning and personal growth. The learning outcomes for this program are:
  • Nutrition Concepts
  • Modern Health Issues
  • Health Coaching
  • Professional Practice
  • Healthy Eating and Living
The health and nutrition information is scientific and highly interesting. (I could not get enough of the lectures!) 3 hours a week is the minimum amount of recommended time to spend on the coursework. But, like anything else, the more time commitment you spend, the more you will get out it of. The lectures are given by various speakers who are experts on different dietary theories, which are now recorded on an iPad! In addition to health, wellness, and nutrition, a majority of the curriculum also teaches the business skills and step-by-step instructions teaching you how to set up a successful health coaching practice.

What type of certification does IIN offer?
Students graduate as Certified Health Coaches, and are eligible to become a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach accredited by The American Association of Drugless Practitioners. There are different laws in certain states governing what other title you can call yourself (i.e. nutritionist). Many grads practice under the title of Holistic Health Coach/Counselor.

Check out this video from one of the live events! You can really get a good idea of the vibe/energy of IIN, as well as the types of people who are students/graduates of the school.

Again, if you have any questions about Integrative Nutrition... I am happy to connect! My e-mail is TasteforHealthy@gmail.com. If you have any specific questions about scholarships, tuition payment plan options, etc, I am happy to introduce you to my contact at the school.
